Objectified
Objectified is a documentary film about “industrial design” by one Gary Hustwit. This blog uses a very clean, modern feeling design. The green and white don’t clash at all, creating a nice color mesh. The layout is pretty traditional using two columns, however everything is structured quite nicely making the entire site very easy to read despite the bright green. The typography is top notch, nothing looks out of place. Even the tiny ad in the sidebar fits right in with the site. The blog talks a lot about typography, specifically documentaries like Helvetica. Though, the author also tends to talk about personal topics as well creating well-balanced content.
Nonesuch
Nonesuch is an interesting blog and website. The site is actually the home of a record company going by the same name using the web as a medium to spread their message and to gain more exposure. Right away, you will notice the spectacular typography and “modern” feeling of the site creating an easy, approachable read for the audience. My only complaint is that the size of the text on default is 11px; it should be much larger to complement the other larger text. With a feel of a magazine, the content of the blog perfectly illustrate what this site is all about. Take a visit to this site to see great user accessibility in practice.
Es Developed
Es Developed is a nice, clean, minimalistic blog that serves as the portfolio for the agency as well. All of the text on the site is clear, and contrasts nicely with the brown background. And the menu adds a bit of graphic flair to the otherwise only textually based blog. However, there are a few problems interface wise. The serif main headings look out of place compared to the capitalized sans-serif headings, and why do the sidebar titles not match up to anything else on the site? Consistency is crucial to creating a great site. Though, the content on this blog is pretty interesting and engaging covering a whole range of topics from new web services to how-to articles.
Alex Coleman
Alex Coleman is a print and web design professional based in California. His site uses a very clean, minimalist style with a bit of grunge flair to it. It looks incredibly nice and thought out, with clean typography and big titles. It’s very easy to just glance and see exactly what he’s been writing about without needing to search the page. Also neat, is how Alex manages to cram a sorta faux three column effect into a two column layout; it saves space, and makes it easier to see all of the information above the fold. He writes about mostly web related topics, however he does veer into other types of posts once in awhile. Take note that he doesn’t update all that frequently, my biggest complaint.
